Re: arsclist Resources in NYC?

Sarah,
Please feel free to call for an appointment to visit the Stanford University Archive of Recorded Sound.  You will find complete, and near complete runs of the various ARSC publications, including the Journal, Bulletin, Membership Directory, and Newsletter, as well as the 1988 NEH grant funded publication of the ARSC/AAA Audio Preservation Planning Study, the Rigler & Deutsche Record Index, and others.  I'm sure these are all available on the East Coast, together with a whole host of individuals whose service to ARSC has brought about important changes in the profession.  You may also find the sound recordings collections here at Stanford to be of some interest.

I would just like to mention, respectfully, in response to Steve's comment, that there was at least one other ARSC conference on the West Coast, that was the 19th Annual ARSC conference in 1985, held at San Francisco State University, and jointly hosted by the Frank V. de Bellis Collection at San Francisco State and the Stanford Archive of Recorded Sound.

Hello ARSC people,
I am a Master's of Library & Information Science student at San Jose State University in California.
I am working on an assignment where I must present/introduce a professional association to my class. I have chosen ARSC. I have already sent away for the most recent ARSC journal and newsletter.
I will be visiting New York (The City only, not Rochester unfortunately) March 25th - 31st.
Is there anywhere in NYC I can visit to take a look at any ARSC-related materials? Or NYC museums having a worthwhile Recorded Sound exhibit?
Also, I ask the same question for the Bay Area, California (any locations between San Jose and San Francisco).
Much obliged,
Sarah Wilson
