When Sony and Philips began licensing the technology for compact discs, they
published standards for various formats in books which are now described by
their color.
Red Book describes CDDA (compact disc digital audio), Yellow Book is for
CD-ROM, Orange Book is for CDR, White Book is for video, etc.
