Re: arsclist VHS and S-VHS Tapes



Mary, I might agree that S-VHS is on the way out as far as production is
concerned. A lot of lower end video production is going to digital formats,
mini-DV or DV-Cam.

Your mini-DV camcorder can act as a player can it not? Many have Y/C output.
All you would need is a machine to copy to.

As Peter Copeland mentioned in his post, DVCam is the better of the 2
formats. It has a faster write speed and a larger track, so drop outs are
less prone to happen. It also runs (on mini tape sizes) for 40 minutes
whereas mini-DV runs 60, unless you are using a consumer machine with LP
speed, in which case it runs 90 minutes. One nice feature of digital formats
with firewire capability is that you can clone machine to machine. All you
need is 2 machines, the proper firewire cable, and the time to do it.
