Trained as a conservator of books and archival materials, he has in recent years refocused his attention on digital preservation and preservation information management. Media Preservation serves a dual role, on the one hand using digital technology as a tool for reformatting print and manuscript materials and on the other preserving a broad spectrum of electronic materials, both analog and digital. On the information management side, he is creator/administrator of Conservation OnLine, a web resource for conservation professionals, and is moderator of the Conservation DistList, an international forum concerning the conservation of museum, library and archive materials. In years past, he was also SUL/AIR's first webmaster Active in the American Institute for Conservation, he is a past chair of the Book and Paper Group and is currently Secretary/Treasurer of the Electronic Materials Group, serves on the AIC and BPG publications committees, and is an associate editor of the Journal of the American Institute for Conservation. In 1999 he received the University Products Award for Distinguished Achievement As SUL/AIR's Collections Emergency Response Coordinator he is responsible for organizing disaster preparedness and response teams and managing salvage operations. He has worked on emergency response efforts in several major floods including Stanford's 1978 Meyer Library flood and the 1998 El Nino flood. For more information, look here. |
