San Francisco

Ted Nightwine at the Painting Conservation Lab of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, has been appointed to establish a painting conservation lab at the Ringling Museum of Sarasota, Florida.

Janice M. Schopfer of San Francisco, a student of Barbara Hiller, has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Apprentice Fellowship in Crafts Grant of $5,000. She will continue to study with Ms. Hiller.

Portland

Betty Engel, Painting Conservator at the Portland Art Museum, has accepted the position of Paintings Conservator at the Balboa Art Conservation Center at the San Diego Museum of Fine Arts and will assume her duties in mid-November.

Fort Worth

Sandy Smith, graduate of the Cooperstown program, will join the staff of Perry Huston at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas in September.

Los Angeles

Benjamin B. Johnson, formerly Head of the Conservation Center of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, has been appointed Executive Director of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (FAIC).

Mrs. Sharon Donnan, who has apprenticed at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Textile Conservation Lab for four years has spent two months studying textile conservation techniques at the Abegg in Switzerland. Mrs. Donnan will return to LACMA in September with a Mellon Fellowship in advanced textile conservation.

Laura Jusczak will leave San Diego and join the LACMA staff in September as a Mellon Fellow in painting conservation.

Mrs. Pat Peeves, Textile Conservator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, will deliver a paper at the bi-annual meeting of CIETA (Centre International d'Etude des Textiles Anciene) in Lyon, France on September 26th. She will spend the month of October on the east coast--partly vacation and partly in consultations at Cooperstown, Harpers Ferry and the Textile Conservation Center in South Salem, New York.

The Textile Conservation facility at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art will be receiving Miss Pat Connell, a senior in the Conservation Program at New York University, for a years internship. She will begin work in mid-September.

Judy Larson has resigned as Research Assistant to the Head of Conservation at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She has accepted a position as Graphic Arts Cataloguer at the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Denise Domergue, paintings conservator and out-going Secretary Treasurer of WAAC, will co-star in a performance by Guy de Cointet on September 12th in the Leo S. Bing Theater of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. According to the artist, "Tell Me" is a performance about abstraction and language, and how they are perceived by the mind and the senses. Jane Zingale, Helen Mendez and Denise formed the original cast when the performance was first presented at the Rosamund Felsen Gallery last March. Ms. Susan Webster Page has joined the staff of the J. Paul Getty Museum as Associate Conservator of Paintings.
