1. A term applied to the widest sheet of machine-made paper, trimmed of its deckle edges, that can be produced on a given papermaking machine. 2. To cut a sheet of paper to an exact size. 3. The paper that is trimmed off of the edges of a leaf, or group of leaves of a book. 4. To cut the edges of a leaf, or group of leaves of a book. 5. The operation of cutting off the bleeds or bolts of a book. 6. The excess of paper allowed around a printed sheet for bleeds. (12 , 17 )
