The finest grade of leather used for the covering of a book. Literally, it means the area of the skin on the top, i.e., the back of the animal. This seldom used expression is somewhat inaccurate in that, although the hest part of a hide or skin is located on the back. the very best is found in the butt area of the back. (164 )
