title
1. The inscription printed on the title page of a
book or other publication, and usually intended to
describe the contents of the publication. Tn its
broadest use, it includes the sub-title,
alternative title, or associated descriptive
matter, but not the author and/or editor,
translator, etc., unless the name forms a
grammatically inseparable part of the title. See

TITLE (1) . 2. In hand binding, usually the
space or panel between the first two raised bands
(from the head) on the spine of a book, on which
