tipping machine

A machine used for gluing plates or endpapers to sections of a book. In the usual case, the sections and endpapers are fed into the machine, edged with adhesive along the binding edge, and pressed together. A plate is generally tipped along the left or right edge and pressed onto the leaf. (156 , 343 )
