steamset

A trade name for an English process of edition binding, in which the spine of the book is lined with an expandable cloth before rounding and backing. The lining and the adhesive on the spine are softened by the application of steam. and the book is rounded and backed while the adhesive is in the softened state. Full rounding with good formation of the shoulders. together with durability and good openability, are said to be merits of the process. (89 , 140 )
