splash papers
Decorative end- and cover papers produced by
sprinkling the paper with alum water, followed,
after pressing for several hours, with colors,
e.g., yellow, dark red, bright red, green, purple,
and brown. Generally the lighter shades are
splashed on first. Usually one or two colors,
sometimes in combination with black ink, are used
for these papers, which are burnished after being
colored. (95 )
