sperm oil

A pale yellow oil found with spermaceti in the cachalot (sperm) whale, Physeter macrocephalus. When spermaceti wax is obtained by treatment with hot water, the sperm oil is pressed out. It is classed chemically as a liquid wax and is sometimes used as a lubricant for leather bindings, generally with other materials in LEATHER DRESSINGS . (173 , 291 )
