A defect in leather stemming from a very fine, deeply embedded young (newly formed) hairs in a hide or skin, which are not removed by unhairing and scudding, and which are carried throughout the leather manufacturing processes, appearing on the finished leather. Short hairs can actually enhance the appearance of a skin such as vellum. (291 )
