shellac size

A size prepared by dissolving shellac flakes in alcohol. It is used as an adhesive in gold tooling and blocking. After being painted into the blinded-in impressions on the leather, the alcohol evaporates, leaving a thin layer of shellac which serves the same purpose as GLAIR . (102 )
