shade
A term used in describing or comparing colors to
indicate a full or definite degree of difference
between two colors. A particular red, for example,
may be a shade darker, lighter, deeper, more
bluish, yellowish, etc., than another red. The
term applies also to a chromatic color darkened by
the addition of black. (233 )
