semi-chrome tannage

A complete vegetable tannage followed by retannage by the chrome method. In this particular tannage, most of the available space between the protein chains of the skin will be occupied by the large vegetable tannin molecules, consequently, unless the vegetable tannage is heavily stripped out, the principal effect is likely to be the coordination of chromium with the vegetable tannins. so that the characteristics of the leather will tend to approximate those of a vegetable tanned leather. Cf: CHROME RETAN . (248 , 306 )
