1. The unit of paper that is printed and folded, and which, together with other like units, makes up a complete book. A section is usually folded from 1 sheet of paper, but it may consist of 1 1/2 or 2 sheets, or even one sheet and an additional leaf or leaves. Each section of a book bears a different SIGNATURE (1) identification. See also: FOLDINGS . 2. In library binding, a group of leaves of a book, suitable for oversewing, not exceeding 0.055 inch in thickness, except those of flexible, pulpy paper which may be 0.065 inch in thickness.
