saw kerf binding
A method of binding single sheets by means of both
thread and adhesive. Kerfs (dove-tailed grooves)
are cut across the spine at an angle and are
filled with adhesive. Sewing thread is then woven
around the kerfs to supplement the adhesive,
following which the kerfs are again filled with
adhesive. This technique was the forerunner of SMYTH-CLEAT SEWING .
