satin white

A paper filler prepared from aluminum sulfate (Al 2 SO 4 ) 3 ) and calcium hydroxide (slaked lime) (CaOH) 2 ). It is used as a coating pigment in coating mixtures, particularly in coated paper of high white color requiring an enamel finish. Satin white is difficult to handle, and does not keep well; therefore it is usually prepared immediately before use. Very close control of its preparation is necessary to obtain fully satisfactory results. (17 )
