satin
A smooth fabric woven in satin weave, and having a
very lustrous face and dull back. Satin is woven
of silk and other fibers and at one time was used
extensively in the production of EMBROIDERED BINDINGS
. The fabric lacks the durability of velvet or
canvas, which were the other principal cloths used
for such bindings. (111 , 280 )
