A record of previous ownership (of a book or manuscript). A bookplate, inscription, signature, motto on the title page or elsewhere, PRESS MARK (2) , price notation, manuscript date, coat of arms on the covers, and sometimes even a style of binding may indicate previous ownership of a book.
