Binders of the expanding-post type, generally with
a steel or aluminum spine. Each side post has four
alternately solid and tubular telescopic posts
attached. The posts alternate so that a thin solid
post is adjacent to a thick hollow post, which
prevents looseness in any part of the binder. A
key at one end of the spine plate operates a
transmission rod to widen the distance between the
clamping bars, thus allowing leaves to be inserted
or removed. Because of the telescopic posts, this
type of binder has a fixed minimum capacity, while
the maximum is always twice the minimum. See also:
