mercapto-benzthiazole ( m.b.t. )

A crystalline heterocyclic compound (C 7 H 4 NS (SH)), which is prepared by the treatment of thiocarbanilide with sulfur, or by heating aniline, carbon disulfide, and nitrobenzene. M.B.T. is useful under certain conditions as a paper fungicide, generally in a concentration of 0.1% by weight of the paper. It contains no chlorine and can be applied either as an aqueous or non-aqueous solution. (198 )
