magnesium bicarbonate

A bicarbonate (Mg(HCO 3 )2) used in deacidifying papers. The bicarbonate is produced by passing carbon dioxide through a solution of magnesium carbonate. The document to be deacidified is immersed in a bath or sprayed with a solution of about 10 grams of magnesium carbonate per liter of water that has been treated with CO 2 . The advantage of this method is that it is simple and effective.
