lizard skin
A leather made from the skins of various lizards,
usually those found in India and Indonesia. The
skins are tanned by various processes, including
vegetable (sumac), alum and salt (tawing), and
chrome tannages. The resultant leather has a
pleasant color and a grain pattern produced by
tiny scales. While usually fawn or gray, they are
sometimes dyed. Lizard skin has been used from
time to time in decorating book covers. (351 )
