lactic acid

A hygroscopic, usually syrupy, alpha-hydroxy acid (C 3 H 6 O 3 ). usually manufactured by the bacterial fermentation of milk, cane or grape sugars, corn, starch, etc., by means of Lactic bacilli, and used in leather manufacture to control pH, in mordanting dyes, and in the potassium salt POTASSIUM LACTATE .
