jute

An Indian bast fiber obtained from white jute, Corchorus capsularis, the Tossa jute, C. olitorius, and other species of Corchorus. It is used in making burlap, gunny sacking. etc., which in turn have been used to provide fibers used in papermaking. Jute fibers are weaker and less durable than flax or hemp, and relatively easily rotted by water. An average clean sample of jute contains approximately 69.35% cellulose and 18.82% lignin.
