Japan marble
A cover marble of a shaded red, produced by
coating the leather with potash water (potash
alum), brazilin and glair, followed by copperas
water (ferrous sulfate) and the red coloring in
large drops, which were made to run down the
covers. After the.colors had dried, the covers
were then washed several times with more of the
brazilin, which added gloss. (95 )
