Fourdrinier wire
An endless belt of woven wire used on the wet end
of the FOURDRINIER
MACHINE , and on which the web of paper is
initially formed. The warp wire is generally of
phosphor bronze and the shute (weft) wire of
brass. In recent years, other metals and
nonmetallic materials have been used. The number
of warp wires per inch and the number of shute
wires determine the mesh of the wire, the warp
count varying from 8 to 225, the most common being
55, 60, 70, and 75. (17 , 62 , 67 )
