fast colors

Those colors which are resistant to the action of external influences, such as light, acids, alkalies, etc. In textile dyeing and other industrial processes, fast colors are those which will satisfactorily resist fading for the useful life of the product in which they are used. In book cloths, the term refers to nonfading over long exposure to artificial light,- but not to natural light. Also called "lightfast," and, inappropriately, "sunfast." See also: FADING ; FUGITIVE COLORS . (17 , 143 , 233 )
