enamelled seal

Originally, a Greenland sealskin, tanned with bark or sumac, and treated with a mixture of Prussian blue (ferric ferrocyanide (KFe(Fe(N 6 ))) and linseed oil, and dried in an oven at high temperature. Today the term refers to an imitation sealskin. See: ENAMELLED HIDE . (61 )
