double cord sewing
A book sewn on double raised cords, i.e., two
cords set adjacent and almost touching, the sewing
thread leaving and re-entering the section through
one hole. Double cord sewing is substantially
stronger than sewing on single cords and the
sections are better supported against the pull of
the thread where required most. i.e., at the point
where the thread leaves and re-enters the section.
