cloth-jointed endpaper
An endpaper that is reinforced at the fold by
means of a strip of cloth. The cloth joint is used
where reinforcement or extra strength is required
and the appearance of the cloth strip is not
objectionable. For maximum effectiveness the
sewing to the text block should be through the
cloth. The sewing may be concealed by inserting
the cloth joint into a zig-zag; however, as this
type of endpaper is utilitarian and used mainly
for large account books, this is seldom done. See
