catch stitch

1. Any type of locking stitch, such as KETTLE STITCH . 2. A stitch used to gather or "catch up" the sewing threads which pass around the tapes of a book. The purpose of this stitch is to prevent undue looseness of the sewing thread. Also called "link sewing." (83 , 119 )
