Damage to hides and skins caused by improper and/
or unskilled flaying, and usually seen in the form
of cuts or furrows on the flesh side. In extreme
cases, the cuts may go completely through the
skin, thus reducing its value greatly. Butcher
cuts are sometimes particularly noticeable on
parchment and vellum. (363 )
