The process of placing newly cased-in library
books between smooth or brass-bound boards and
applying pressure in a standing press or hydraulic
press, or applying dry heat and (considerable)
pressure for a brief time (usually 8 to 15
seconds) in a hydro-press or BUILDING-IN MACHINE .
Building in forms the joints, compresses the book,
secures it firmly in its case and reduces
substantially any possibility of board warpage.
