This is the twelfth Book and Paper Group Annual, a non-juried anthology of papers pertaining to the conservation and preservation of works of art on paper, books and library and archival materials. The Annual has become a valuable reference and resource tool for members of the Book and Paper Group as well as for an increasingly wider audience. This issue includes fourteen papers delivered at the 1993 Book and Paper Group Specialty Session, AIC 21st Annual Meeting in Denver and one paper submitted independently. The success of the Annual over the past twelve years rest solely with those who have willingly contributed information for publication and those who have served as compilers. The Annual is one method by which the Book and Paper Group serves its membership. It provides an important forum for the exchange of information and ideas in this field.
This issue of the Annual marks the first time it has been compiled entirely from copy submitted electronically on computer disks. The entire issue has been composed on the computer using a scanner and desktop publishing software program, and sent to the printer electronically over a network, saving costly pre-press operations. Standardizing the format of the Annual greatly reduced the number of printed pages. However the Annual remains an unedited publication, with responsibility for the articles solely in the hands of the authors.
Thanks to all those who have made contributions to this volume and the previous eleven volumes, and to the Harold B. Lee Library of Brigham Young University for their continued support for the production of the Annual
