Nevada
Nevadaknown for trappers, traders, high-stake players, and of course...outdoor sculpture. Volunteers from the Silver State documented 199 outdoor sculptures, including 59 in Las Vegas alone. The Nevada SOS! survey discovered that more than half of the state's outdoor sculpture has been created in the past fifteen years. One of only two works made before the 19th century is a Civil War monument called Nevada's Tribute to Union Soldiers and Sailors made in 1891. Sculpture from the past two decades include Luis Jimenez's larger than life size fiberglass sculpture of a Mexican cowboy, or Vaquero, riding on a bucking horse, which stands at McCarren International Airport in Las Vegas, and Rod McCormick's five-foot tall chicken made from flattened and shaped coffee cans called, appropriately enough, Coffee Can Chicken.
