Montana

236 Treasure State volunteers documented 366 outdoor sculptures. Augustus Saint-Gaudens' last known work, a bronze portrait of "copper king" Marcus Daly, is on the University of Montana campus. Daly made his money by discovering a rich source of copper and building his own smelter to reduce costs. The artist Gaudens died a month and a half before the statue's dedication in 1907.

Another sculpture that pays tribute to Montana's history is of George Armstrong Custer by an unknown artist. The statue was unveiled at the 45th anniversary ceremony commemorating the Battle of Little Bighorn, in which a vastly outnumbered cavalry, led by General Custer, made an ill-advised attack on the Sioux Indians.
