Kansas
796 outdoor sculptures were documented in Kansas' first ever inventory of this kind. To kick off the inventory, March 1994 was declared by the Kansas State Senate as Save Outdoor Sculpture month. In Wichita, a sculpture appreciation class was offered to fourth and fifth graders which consisted of walking tours, slide shows and working directly with a contemporary sculptor. Now that program is part of every fifth grader's school year. Each class works with an artist to make a sculpture for their school. Kansas has cultivated many famous people including Amelia Earhart, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Wild Bill Hickok, and Dennis Hopper.
