Rosslyn

Dark Star Park (1984) by Nancy Holt
Did you know that sculpture could tell time? On August 1, 1869, William Henry Ross became the proud owner of the land that is now Rosslyn, Virginia. This sculpture of spheres and poles was chosen to honor this birthday. If you live in the Eastern Time Zone, when your clock strikes 9:32 am on August 1, the shadows of the poles perfectly match the patterns that decorate the ground.

How does your town honor its birthday? Is sculpture a part of the celebration?
