Denver

Colorado Miner (1979) by George Carlson
Gold was discovered in the mountains of Colorado in 1858. The industry of mining gold and other minerals has been a very important part of Colorado's economy and history. Senator Samuel D. Nicholson, a former miner himself, donated money to build this memorial for his fellow Colorado miners in 1923. It took over 50 years for the City of Denver to create this sculpture.
