Tennessee

248 Tennessee "Volunteers" reported on 486 outdoor sculptures. All 95 counties were surveyed! Folk sculptures created by itinerant Mexican-American artist Dionicio Rodriquez were surveyed in Memphis. Rodriquez used cement to resemble benches and bridges made of twigs and branches. In your state, you can also find a bust of John Ross, principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation from 1828 to 1866, done by Tennessee native Belle Marshall Kinney. Drive along Interstate Highways 55, 65 and 81 and look for five new sculptures. In 1999, the once-embattled Battle of Nashville by Giuseppi Moretti was relocated and repaired, thanks to the energy and generosity of more "Volunteers." That monument honors all who fought in the Civil War.
