Cody
Buffalo Bill, the Scout, by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, is of the Old West legend William Cody, Pony Express rider, wagon master, stagecoach driver, Civil War soldier, and performer. The town in which this statue stands bears his distinguished name. He earned the nickname Buffalo Bill for his skill in hunting buffalo. This sculpture depicts Cody as an army officer. He had a decorated career as a scout in the Indian Wars and was believed to be a good luck charm by the Fifth Cavalry.
