Re: wool ply history

Karin: What a wonderful question! There’s a nice history of spinning in a CIBA Review. If I remember correctly, truly worsted wool was not machine spun until the 19th century. The Pasold Research fund has a volume or two that might also be pertinent http://www.pasold.co.uk/default.htm

Subject: wool ply history

Since when do wool plies made from 3 ends exist?

Does someone happen to know any literature about yarn making history in industrialized time which would allow "dating" restoration as far as "after ...." by
- number of ends twisted
- twist angle
- etc.

Thanks,
Karin von Lerber
