Tear Repair" workshop in August of this year for the treatment of
damaged paintings and textile objects.

The Canadian Conservation Institute is pleased to announce that the Thread
by Thread Tear Repair Workshop will be offered to the conservation
community, for the first time in Canada, as part of our ongoing professional
development program.   

Course instructors are Professor Winfried Heiber (Academy of Fine Arts,
Dresden) and Petra Demuth (University of Applied Sciences, Cologne).

Developed by Professor Heiber, this technique offers a method for the repair
of tears to paintings when lining or patching are not options.  The
repair results in virtually invisible mends, and while pertinent to all
paintings on canvas, it is an especially valuable technique for the conservation
of modern and contemporary paintings.  As this repair technique can
be adapted for the conservation of textile objects we would like to encourage
participation in this workshop by both paintings and textiles conservators.

The lecture session (August 20) will be open to a wide audience.  Laboratory
sessions (August 21-22) will be available to a smaller number of participants.

The Thread by Thread Tear Repair Workshop will be announced on the
Canadian Conservation Institute web site in March, 2008.

L’Institut canadien de conservation est heureux d’annoncer la tenue de
l’atelier « Réparation de déchirures fil par fil », proposée à la communauté
de conservation pour la toute première fois au Canada dans le cadre de
notre programme de perfectionnement professionnel continu.

Les instructeurs seront Winfried Heiber (Académie de Beaux-Arts de Dresde)
et Petra Demuth (Université des Sciences appliquées de Cologne).

Développée par le professeur Heiber, la technique offre une méthode de
réparation des déchirures aux peintures, lorsqu’il n’est pas possible
d’effectuer le rentoilage ou le rapiéçage. Les réparations qui en résultent
sont pratiquement invisibles. Si la technique convient à l’ensemble des
peintures sur toile, elle est particulièrement utile pour la restauration
d’œuvres d’art moderne ou d’art contemporain. Comme il est possible
d’adapter la technique de réparation à la restauration d’objets faits
de textiles, nous tenons à encourager non seulement les restaurateurs de
peintures à y participer, mais également les restaurateurs de textiles.

La séance d’exposé (du 20 août) est ouverte à un vaste public. En revanche,
la participation aux séances en laboratoire (du 21 au 22 août) est limitée
à un nombre restreint de personnes. 

L’annonce de l’atelier « Réparation de déchirures fil par fil » sera
faite sur le site Web de l’Institut canadien de conservation en mars 2008.
