Immediately following their 2007 Annual Meeting, MRCG will be hosting a Mastering Fills Workshop. This workshop is being supported with funding from The American Institute for Conservation of Artistic and Historic Works.
Specialists in painting, objects and paper conservation will survey filling materials and techniques for a wide spectrum of artistic and historic artifacts. The Workshop will be multi-disciplinary, with information highly useful to conservators treating paintings, objects, paper, photographic materials and mixed-media works.
The workshop will take place October 8-9 at the Campbell
Center
(http://www.campbellcenter.org/),
which is about 180 miles West of Chicago, in Mount Carroll,
Illinois.
This is an extremely rare comprehensive course that will explore the myriad of materials and methods used for compensating for losses in a wide variety of artifact types. Specialists in paintings, paper and objects will provide an overview of the various fill materials commonly used in their specialty, with an emphasis on a multi-disciplinary approach particularly useful for composite objects or for challenging or problematic media. The course will offer both lectures, studio sessions and sessions involving inter-active dialogue in order to maximize opportunities for learning.
