I am working on a quilt that was covered with fuzzy mold on about 1/8th of
the front surface. The quilt is made up of a brown
glazed chintz that is in good condition, a brown calico that is falling
apart, a blue fondue print that is in good condition, and a plain weave white
muslin that is in good condition except for the area with gray spots from the
mold.
The quilt was vacuumed and all visible signs of mold are gone. Much
of the quilt was stitched with a brown cotton thread that is rotten so much of
that had to be re-stitched. Much of the brown calico that is
deteriorated will be covered with Tetex.
Since chlorine can't be used on the quilt and because wet cleaning would be
ill advised due to the brown dyes that are breaking down in the calicoes.
Are there any options for getting rid of the mold spores that are probably
still living in the fabric and the batting? It has been stable now for
several months in a controlled environment.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Living in a hurricane prone area, this is a subject that is extremely
important.
Thank you.
