HIRING IMMEDIATELY

TEXTILE CONSERVATORS AND TECHNICIANS

The National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, offers a
unique opportunity to work on a project of historic significance. The
Star-Spangled Banner, the flag that flew over Ft. McHenry and inspired the
National Anthem, is being conserved in a custom-built lab, on view to the
public. The final phase of the project involves preparing the 30' by 34'
textile for exhibition. This is an opportunity to be involved in the
preservation program for a national icon and educate the public about your
profession.

Successful applicants will have a knowledge of and experience with textile
conservation practices, with an emphasis on woolen textiles. Position
requires the ability to work while lying down/sitting/standing for extended
periods. Also requires ability to move up to 60 pounds of fabric and
equipment, and the ability to climb ladders.

These are time-limited positions, not to exceed 4 months.
The Smithsonian is an Equal Opportunity employer.
