Carpet dealers and carpet connoisseurs use the term 'dry rot' as a generic
term to describe a poor condition in a carpet. Mycologists and other
microbiologists may take issue with this use, but it really is quite clear
to the dealers and collectors. Professionally, I have more difficulty with
the term 'conservator' which 1) in US legal parlance means a guardian
appointed by the court for an individual incompetent to handle his/her own
affairs 2) in ecological circles, means someone with training in wildlife or
forestry 3) in French refers to a curator!
